The methodological proposal consists of three consecutive stages. The first stage involves a territorial diagnosis, where we compile relevant background information from the registries of green areas, public spaces (such as streets and paths), and places and infrastructure that has been damaged. Additionally, a characterization of the territory is studied through an investigation of sociodemographics, environmental aspects, and an analysis of real estate dynamics. Then, the diagnosis delves into the critical nodes of deterioration of the space through a multicriteria analysis that allows for a visualization of the deteriorated public space, whether historic or modern. After, the strategic objectives are defined based on the FODA analysis of the territory.
The second stage focuses on the evaluation and prioritization process based on the zoning results from the first stage. The previous stage proposes fieldwork to evaluate the critical state of the public space through a damage scale sheet. In this scenario, the context is crucial in order to determine the scale of intervention and to promote unity amongst the local community and its immediate environment. The prioritization of spaces is according to the depth required to achieve optimal revitalization.
Lastly, the third strategic stage will help promote the recovery of public spaces by outlining potential paths of action, project designs, while considering the typologies of the spaces. For this the project, it is proposed to implement a public space design with the prioritization results from Phase 2.
